Public Diplomacy Institute (PDI)
Mission
The George Washington University's School of Media and Public Affairs and Elliott School of International Affairs joined with the Public Diplomacy Council to establish the Public Diplomacy Institute (charter pending).
The Institute advances the academic study and practice of public diplomacy through teaching, research, scholarship, advice, consultation, publications, and professional services.
Located in the heart of The George Washington University's campus near the Department of State, PDI offers courses on public diplomacy, mentors students, sponsors conferences and academic roundtables, develops public diplomacy courses and teaching materials, and supports the preservation of archival materials.
PDI fosters the development of public diplomacy as a field of study through its courses and collaborative relationships with other academic and research organizations.
The Institute?s constituency includes a larger community dedicated to the practice of public diplomacy. PDI's directors, faculty, and associates maintain cooperative relations with U.S. and foreign government officials, Members of Congress and their staffs, practitioners in non-governmental organizations, and the media.
PDI focuses on trends and professional issues in the public dimension of diplomacy, lessons from successes and failures in public diplomacy, and ways to build scholar-practitioner relations.
The Institute has no government connection and receives no financial support from any government source. It seeks support from foundation grants and corporate gifts.
Institute Director Bruce Gregory compiles a regular update and review of Public Diplomacy books, articles and websites of interest.
